Wayfinder knows a lot about your RV so it can plan trips that fit. Here is exactly what that means, in plain language.
In short
- Location only while you use the app. Wayfinder uses your location while the app is open: when you plan a trip, look for stops, and drive. It does not track you in the background.
- Nothing is sold. We do not sell or rent your data, and no stop is shown because someone paid for it.
- We never see your card. Payments are taken by Stripe on our website.
- Delete in the app or by email. Delete your account in the app, or email us. Either way, your data is deleted within 30 days, and any subscription is canceled at once, with a refund for the days you have not used.
Overview
Wayfinder ("the App," "we," "us," "our") is a mobile application that helps RV travelers plan trips, discover stops, and manage journeys with RV-specific intelligence. It is operated by Wayfinder App LLC. Our website, www.wayfinderappllc.com, is where you subscribe and manage your plan. By using Wayfinder you agree to the terms of this policy.
We treat everything in this policy that relates to you as personal information, and handle it under one internal policy: we collect only what a feature needs, keep it encrypted, let only you (and, through our administration tools, the few people who run the service) reach it, and delete it when you delete your account.
What you give us
- Account details. Your email address and password, and your name if you add one. Firebase stores them and handles sign-in, in the app and on our website.
- RV profile. Make, model, year, type, length, height, weight, drive type, fuel type, tank size, fuel economy (mpg), fuel range, towing details and hookup needs; for an electric rig, its range on a full charge. Also your VIN, if you enter one. For an electric rig, the charge level you enter at the start of a drive is kept on your phone only, so the next drive can suggest it; signing out or deleting your account removes it.
- Saved places. Your Home and any place you name, with its address and position, stored with your account so they appear on any phone you sign in on.
- Trips you save. Your start, destination and stops, the route between them, the date, and the RV details used for that trip. If you choose your current location as the start, that point is saved as the start. A saved place used in a trip is shown in it by the name you gave it.
- Subscription. Your plan (monthly or yearly), its status and dates, and whether you redeemed an access code. Stripe holds your payment details; we keep a link to your Stripe customer record, not your card.
- Ideas & feedback. Ideas you post, your votes, ideas you report, and people whose ideas you hide.
- Support. Emails you send us, and drive logs you choose to send (see below).
Location
Wayfinder asks for your location only while the app is in use. It uses it to:
- show where you are on the map
- give turn-by-turn directions and find a new route if you leave the planned one
- find stops near you
- fill in your current location as a trip start, when you choose it
To do this, your current location is sent to Mapbox, and it can be sent to Recreation.gov as the point to search around. See "Who else receives your data".
We do not keep your location on our servers unless it becomes part of a trip you save or a place you save: saved trips keep the places and route you planned, a current location you chose is saved as the start, and a saved place keeps its address and position. Deleting the trip, the place, or your account removes it.
On your phone, recent stop searches are kept to load faster.
You can turn off location in your device settings at any time.
Your drive log
Wayfinder keeps a log of how the app behaved on recent drives, on your phone only. It holds no addresses, place names or positions. It leaves your phone only when you choose to send it from Support & Help: then it goes by email to support@wayfinderappllc.com with your app version, iOS version, the drive date, and your support reference, a short code (like WF-7K3Q) linked to your account so we can tell whose log it is. The code is not made from your email or account id.
What we do not collect
Wayfinder does not use analytics or crash-reporting tools, and it does not send push notifications. Our server logs may record your account's internal id so we can fix problems; only the people who run the service can read them, and they hold no addresses, positions, VINs or card details.
The Mapbox map software in the app sends Mapbox its own usage data about the map. You can turn this off: tap the (i) button on a map and choose Mapbox Telemetry. See the next section.
Who else receives your data
Mapbox
What it receives: Places you search for; your trip's start, stops and destination; your RV's height, for routing; your current location when you use the map, directions or nearby search, and your direction of travel when you get directions; the position of a place you save, to look up its address. The Mapbox map software also sends Mapbox usage data about the map.
Why: Maps, place search, routes, directions, stop search and addresses
Firebase (Google)
What it receives: Your email address, password and name; your RV profiles, saved places, saved trips, subscription status, ideas and votes; the trip you are planning, to draw its route preview
Why: Sign-in (app and website), storage, and running the app's server functions
Stripe
What it receives: Your email address and the payment details you enter on Stripe's checkout page; your plan
Why: Taking payments and managing your subscription
Recreation.gov (RIDB)
What it receives: The map point to search around, which can be your current location
Why: Public campground data
NHTSA (U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
What it receives: Your VIN, only when you tap VIN lookup
Why: Showing your RV's chassis details and filling in its fuel type
If you tap a link that opens another app or website, such as Apple Maps, a phone number, a campground's website or our website, that app or site receives what the link carries, such as the place you looked up. When you send us a drive log, it goes through the mail app you choose.
Our website, www.wayfinderappllc.com, loads its fonts from Google Fonts.
The Ideas & feedback board
- Ideas you post can be seen by other Wayfinder users. They are shown without your name, and no one else can tell which ideas came from the same person.
- If you delete your account, your ideas stay on the board, no longer connected to you.
- Your votes are private.
- When you report an idea or hide someone's ideas, only you and Wayfinder know.
How we use it
To sign you in; to plan routes that fit your RV, find stops and give directions; to save your places, trips and RV profiles; to run your subscription and free period; to run the Ideas & feedback board and review reports; to answer your emails and look into problems you report; and to meet legal obligations.
Deleting your data
- A trip or a saved place. Delete it in the app. It is removed.
- Your account. In the app, go to Account, then Account Settings, then Delete account. If you can't get into the app, email support@wayfinderappllc.com. Either way:
- Any subscription is canceled at once, the part of your current period you have not used is refunded, and you will not be charged again. Your customer record at Stripe, including any card on file, is deleted.
- Your data is deleted within 30 days: your account, saved places, saved trips, RV profiles, subscription records, votes, reports, settings and support reference. This can't be undone.
- One thing is kept: a one-way code made from your email address, and a note that its free period was used, for 2 years. It cannot be turned back into your email. It only stops a new account on the same email from getting a second free period, and it is deleted after 2 years.
- Ideas. Ideas you posted stay on the board, no longer connected to you.
- Payments. Stripe keeps its record of payments you made, as tax law requires.
- Emails you sent us. They are deleted within 30 days of your account deletion, unless we need them to resolve an open issue.
- On your phone. Wayfinder also keeps some data on your phone, such as your current trip and recent searches. Signing out or deleting your account clears it from that phone, and deleting the app removes it.
Your rights
- A copy of your data. Email us and we will send you a copy.
- Correction. You can change your account, RV profiles and saved places in the app, or email us.
- Deletion. See "Deleting your data".
- Location. You can turn off location in your device settings at any time.
We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
Children
Wayfinder is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you think someone under 18 has given us their data, email support@wayfinderappllc.com and we will delete it.
Security
All traffic between the app, our website and our services is encrypted with TLS. Your data is stored in Google Firebase, which encrypts stored data by default. Only you can read your own account data through the app; the people who run the service reach it only through administration tools protected by two-step sign-in. If we learn of a breach that affects your data, we will tell you as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
We post each new version with its date. Material changes take effect 30 days after we post them and email you at your account address.
